Many companies and businesses are embracing a consumer culture of savings, often to the detriment of any shopper looking for good deals. Many websites and retailers are offering discount cards, coupons, and other goods at prices marked significantly below retail.

As more and more deals emerge, retailers raise rates to compensate for discounts. A product that may have been marketed at $20 will be raised in price to $40, and marked down to $20 in a 50% off sale. Consumers are paying the same price for the good or service, but under the guise of great savings.

It’s important to comparison shop for any deals found online or in stores. Many products that are marked as being on sale may have originally been marked at a much higher price. There are many price comparison sites available online that can show the average price of a good.

Getting too caught up in the thrill of deals can have other implications too. There are some less scrupulous companies that offer free products or trial services for a few dollars, only to have a several hundred dollar monthly charge tacked on after the trial period has expired. It’s important to read the fine print when signing up for any deals online, and check debit card and credit card statements regularly.

Every person likes good deals. Money is hard to come by, especially lately with so many people losing jobs, gas prices rising, and a more expensive economy we’re living in. We all want to save money in every possible way. This is great, until we begin “saving” money on items we don’t normally purchase, or possibly never even use. I’m guilty of making purchases just because I see a good deal, but in order to truly save money, I should only get good deals on normal purchases I make.

An outlet recently opened up near my home. My husband and I loved to shop there, until we realized we were spending more money at this money-saving store, than we would if we purchased the items we needed at the supermarket down the street. We have since stopped going there unless we have a specific list of items we’d normally purchase, and we know we can find them for a good price.

The key to finding a truly good deal is finding sales on items you normally purchase. Another possible good deal is finding something you normally don’t use on sale. Just ensure that whatever “good deals” you purchase, you use.

With the downfall of the economy and influx of prices, it is crucial to spend wisely. It is almost impossible to immediately cut your spending budgets, but there are many ways that can help you gradually spend less and less.

One of the first steps in spending less is to remove the use of credit cards. Close out any credit cards that are unnecessary to use which includes those of clothing companies and department stores. Having two credit cards is more than enough, one as a back up credit card. It best if you can remove the option of paying with a credit card completely.

Carrying and using cash with help to control the amount you spend. With less cash in your wallet, you will be more reluctant to spend which helps to control the splurging. Another way to control spending is to carry bigger bills in your wallet. You are less likely to break a big bill than anything of a twenty and under.

The most important way to avoid spending as much is to have a weekly budget. Create a number that covers transportation and food with a little extra for weekend fun. This way you can help control you weekly spending. If needed, start with a higher budget and gradually lower it.

Using coupons has been a poplar way to save money for decades. However, keeping up with so many coupons can be difficult. To maximize your savings, and minimize stress, there are two simple ways to organize coupons.

The first way involves clipping individual coupons and organizing them into plastic sleeves like baseball card holders. Secured in a binder, the coupons are easily viewed by the shopper. Once the coupons have been inserted into the plastic sleeves, the coupons can be sorted into categories like household goods, perishables, non-perishables or cosmetics.

The second method for organizing coupons requires no immediate clipping. Take the coupon insert a part and file into a page protector. This method is initially faster than the clipping method. It is best to sort coupon inserts by date if using this method. Clip coupons as the need arises instead of clipping all the coupons at once. The downside to using the whole page method is that coupons may be harder to locate. However, by only clipping the coupons needed, time is saved over the long run.

Whether coupons are clipped or filed away whole, using coupons does not have to be stressful. Finding a method that suits your needs and lifestyle will help you maximize you savings.
